Revert a Licensed Version of SmarterStats to the Free Edition

In order to deactivate a license and revert an installation back to the free edition, remove the license key and activation code from the AppConfig.xml by doing the following:

<licenseKey></licenseKey>
<activation></activation>

1. Log into your server as the administrator.
2. Using Window Explorer, navigate to the installation folder for the SmarterStats service (by default C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterStats\MRS\App_Data\Configservice).
3. Make a backup of the file AppConfig.xml.
4. Open the AppConfig.xml file with Notepad.
5. Find and delete these lines: 
   • <licenseKey></licenseKey>
   • <activation></activation>
6. Save the file and then close it.
7. Stop and Start the SmarterStats Service.
